Heads2gether Annual General Meeting
The 2009 Annual General Meeting was held in Henley on 29th June. The Committee used
the meeting to inform the membership of the key achievements over the last twelve
months:
- Membership of the group now exceeds 80.
- This year saw a packed schedule of social events including punting, walks, ten pin
bowling, open gardens and skittles (with the renal support group FROG).
- Eighth members now trained as telephone Supporters and seven as Buddies. One member
trained to Cancer Support Certificate standard.
- Establishment of our telephone support line.
- We now have a code of practice document outlining confidentiality policy, organisational
and support structure and safety code.
- Participation in the Mouth Cancer Awareness Week activity at the JR. Hundreds of
people viewed the exhibits and dozens of people were given advice or referral.
- We now receive approximately equal number of patient referrals from Clinical Nurse
Specialists or therapists and our own marketing efforts.
- Networking has led to significant co-operation with other groups (one being a very
close tie with the H&N Support Group at Addenbrooks). We are now considering offering
support Nationally and we are engaged in appointing and training a national network
of Supporters who can deal with enquiries from our telephone support line.
- Publicity for our work has been broadcast on local and national TV.
