Providing information and support for head and neck cancer patients, their carers,
relatives and friends.
Karen has not only done it, she’s knocked ten minutes off her `personal best' at the same time.
Her first hurdle came on Sunday morning when she found the Underground line into London closed for essential maintenance. With a bit of ingenuity, she finally made her way to Greenwich Park with minutes to spare. The early weather was bright and cold, perfect for running, but soon the clouds rolled in. The organisers had set up special shower tunnels around the course so participants could run through and cool-off, but she didn't need to use them. After only an hour, the heavens opened and gave Karen her first good soaking. The rain didn't seem to dampen her spirits though as she ran a personal best time, ten minutes faster than her last London Marathon ten years ago.
After the race, Karen and her wet but enthusiastic band of supporters all gathered in a pub near to the end of the course for a celebratory drink.
Through the generosity of her sponsors, Karen has raised more than £7,500 ($15,000) for Heads Up, the head and neck cancer charity. The money raised will go directly towards research into causes and new treatments for head & neck cancer.
Well done Karen and a big thank you to all her sponsors!!!
